“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.” Romans 12:1 (NLT)
Imagine arriving at church on Sunday morning to see that someone has broken in and trashed the place. Garbage, food, and drinks have been scattered throughout the sanctuary. How would that make you feel? Most likely, you would feel a little outraged, offended, and violated. How could anyone do this to the house of God?
If we stop to think about it, many of us are guilty of this same crime. We are trashing our bodies—our temples—when we put junk food and chemicals inside. We are no different than these intruders, desecrating the house of our Lord.
We don’t even realize it, but indeed, we are slowly trashing God’s temples instead of treasuring them. How often do we attend church, Bible studies, and pray, yet ignore the harm that we do to our bodies? We need to care for our bodies—let them be a living and holy sacrifice to the Lord to thank Him for all He has done!
Lord, I am thankful that Your Holy Spirit resides in my body, Your temple. Help me make wise choices so I can have a clean body to offer up to You and Your Kingdom. Amen.
