On our journeys to health, at one time or another, we have all more than likely suffered through a horrendous sugar craving or two.
Did you know that there could be a chemical reason for these atrociously evil things – besides just lurking to throw us off the diet wagon?
Even more importantly, did you know there is an actual supplement we could take to help combat these cravings?
Listen up, Sister. Here is some good news.
We know that our bodies need fuel. We may also know that our brain’s preferred source of fuel is glucose which is also known as blood sugar.
Let’s say that we have fueled our bodies with refined carbohydrates like white bread, bagels, and pastries (I’ll stop there so I don’t get blamed for sparking a sugar craving by the power of suggestion) and our body is used to a certain level of glucose (sugar) in our system. It likes this and draws its energy from it. Then, we go processed-free, removing the bulk of the sugar, and our body is wonky and pitching a fit like an unruly child when we don’t give it what it is used to.
We have neurotransmitters in our brains, and there are all kinds of signals firing back and forth that we don’t even know about. Often, sugar cravings are just the neurotransmitters yelling out for something they need or want when they get out of balance.
So besides interrupting the flow of sugar for the body, what other things could throw off our balance and make our body demand sugar?
Daily stress like not having enough money to pay the bills, the loss of a job, an illness of a friend or family member– can make you deficient in some of these neurotransmitters.
Being pregnant or delivering a child can be very hard on your body and affect your levels.
Long-term chronic stress can wreak havoc on a body. Maybe you have exhausted yourself and gotten so stressed out that you are regularly deficient in some neurotransmitters.
All of these things and so much more that life can throw at us can mess up the balance in our bodies.
So there is a particular amino acid called L-Glutamine that happens to be a brain-feeding nutrient and can honestly stop our sugar cravings quite quickly.
It is fascinating because, in taking this supplement, you are giving the body what it wants…a fuel source… food and energy. Typically, it will get it from blood sugar, but it is just as happy with L-Glutamine. This will help you keep your blood sugar levels more normal.
While you are getting a grip on your sugar cravings, your brain is still getting satisfied.
It’s not like you can eat a crappy diet, take this magic pill, then wipe out sugar cravings; this supplement is most effective with a processed-free diet.
I have had clients whose sugar cravings completely dissipate when they get their neurotransmitters back in balance by using L-Glutamine.
This can also be of benefit not only as a preventative measure, but if you experience a craving, take it, and within ten minutes, the craving is gone. It is that powerful.
It seems so simple, and I often wonder why we don’t hear more about this amazing supplement. I am happy to share this wonderful information with you. You can find the L-Glutamine supplements at your health food store in the vitamin/supplement section. It is typically less than $10 for a month’s supply. My preferred brand is “NOW”. If you are an Amazon customer, here is a link for you.
1500 milligrams a day, three times a day, 30 minutes before eating. If you have a craving, it won’t hurt you to take an additional dose once in a while.
