Let’s face it, we live in a noisy and chaotic world. Cell phones buzzing every few minutes, family activities pull us in all different directions, and never-ending to-do’s fill up our day—it’s hard to keep up.
In today’s fast-paced world, time management is crucial. If we don’t manage our time, before we know the day is half over. We hop onto Facebook to quickly catch up and before we know it, WHAM, hours have gone by. We spend way too long talking to a friend where the conversations are not even close to productive. We sit in a meeting with rabbit trail, after rabbit trail, accomplishing very little. Then at the end of the exhausting day, we sit in front of the television for hours. Any of this sound familiar?
We have good intentions—we make lists and set goals. But when we don’t meet them, we feel like a failure and eventually we give up trying. Finding what works for you long-term is one of the keys to your success. Success doesn’t come in a one-size-fits-all. When I shop for a new pair of jeans, I have to try on a number of pairs before I find one that fits. It’s the same with finding a system that works for us and our goals.
Just like the jeans I buy may not fit you, what works for me to achieve my goals may not work for you. We may think that sticking to our goals is what is important, but sticking to our way of reaching them is what leads us to victory in the end.
Be creative, giving yourself the freedom needed to adapt and change the way you pursue your goals. Find whatever works for you and then stick to it. You don’t need to fit into anyone else’s jeans, you just need to love your own.
